Once again, Locust Valley Central School District has been recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education by The NAMM Foundation, for its outstanding commitment to music education.

The 2021 designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing music access and education to all students. This award recognizes that Locust Valley is leading the way with learning opportunities as outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act.

The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit organization supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants. The foundation advances active participation in music making throughout one’s life by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs.

Congratulations to the LVCSD music staff and all of our student-musicians on this outstanding achievement!

LVCSD Musicians Thrive During Unique Opportunity

A unique musical opportunity allowed 53 Locust Valley student musicians to attend workshops led by professional musicians. The virtual workshops were sponsored by the Nassau Music Educators Association from Feb. 5-7.

Locust Valley music teachers nominated students in grades 5-12 for participation in these performance readiness workshops which were held in lieu of the county-wide ensemble performances typically held this time of year.

Student musicians joined the interactive sessions that ran for 60-90 minutes each, learning from the professional musicians and playing for the workshop participants.

“This was an opportunity that provided our students with an experience they could not have had during the typical school year,” said AnnMarie Buonaspina, Coordinator of Music, K-12. “Students actively participated in the workshops, demonstrating their own skills and learning from others.”
